This month we were able to dive into the exciting world of youth mentorship and the transformative experience it creates when we participated in the Young Women in Leadership program. This initiative, created by MP Pam Damoff, aims to empower young women and provide them with guidance and support in our communities.
Mentorship is a powerful tool that can shape lives, open doors and inspire our future leaders. It provides guidance, support, and encouragement to individuals seeking personal and professional growth. It creates opportunities to have a closer look at the roles we do as leaders, and learn about the soft skills we use daily at work. When it comes to mentoring young women, the impact is even more profound. By offering our guidance, we can foster their self-confidence, cultivate their leadership skills, and promote diversity and inclusion. Seeing a young woman grow and thrive through mentorship is an incredibly rewarding experience. The sense of fulfillment that comes from knowing you made a positive difference in someone’s life is truly priceless.
The Young Women in Leadership program, spearheaded by MP Pam Damoff, seeks to bridge the gender gap and empower young women to become future leaders. It encourages female mentors in diverse backgrounds – from doctors to engineers to business owners – to step forward and share their wisdom and guidance. By participating in this program, mentors have the opportunity to share their experiences, encourage growth and pave the way for our young women leader’s successes.
We had an incredible day connecting with our mentee Hillary, a Grade 10 student from Milton. The journey we embarked upon together has been nothing short of inspiring.
It sure can’t be easy for a teenager to come to an office full of strangers to spend the day. These students start this journey with incredible courage. We began our day with staff introductions, a tour, and then discussed goals and challenges in her world. Hillary spent the day getting to know a little bit of each person’s role and got to see the important interconnectivity and communication that happens in an organization. She was eager and willing to participate, and as the day went on you could see her confidence soar. We were joined by MP Pam Damoff and interviewed by Burlington Today which was a great bonus experience. It was such a great day!
Seeing a mentee’s confidence grow and creating a safe space for them to have the willingness to try new things makes mentoring one of the most rewarding aspects of being a leader. The mentor-mentee relationship is a unique bond built on trust, respect, and shared goals. It’s a welcomed journey of growth and inspiration for both parties involved and by creating these opportunities we are empowering young women to be strong leaders for the future.
IWD’s theme this year is #EmbraceEquity. In understanding the difference between equality and equity we see how the same solution for all does not always provide the desired outcome. An example of this difference in our environment is that we provide the same platform for all our Stylists to achieve their goals – that is equality. In trying to embrace the opportunity, some Stylists need more help, and some need less. When we take the time to coach and teach at all different skill levels, using the Stylists different technologies available, on time schedules that work for the Stylists, we help create equity.
Embracing equity, inclusion and diversity into our workplace is a reflection of our core values. I am ELATED that we are a woman powered company! From our warehouse crew and our marketing team, to accounting, customer service and field development, and our CEO, we are 99.9% powered by incredible women! Add in our field of 1000+ women Stylists across Canada, and I feel we are over achievers in the equity mandate. I couldn’t be more proud!
One of our initiatives, our Leggz of Art program, embraces equity by creating opportunities for artists to participate in a leggings design process while being supported and promoted through a marketing campaign, as well as a donation component. This program is an excellent way to open doors for some very talented people that may not have the means to develop their craft in this way.
It is important to us to provide free opportunities to learn and continually develop which is important in building transferable skills. From employee and Stylist related training, to challenges that help our field step outside their comfort zone, to hands-on workshops, we continue to embrace every opportunity to help women build their confidence, develop their skills, and pursue their goals.
Key pioneer women in the direct selling industry, such as Mary Ash and Brownie Wise, have played a crucial role in promoting and embracing equity when they started their companies. I wonder if they knew what a profound impact they would have on women, who make up 83% of the 1.37 million direct selling independent reps in Canada*.
The direct selling industry provides such an incredible opportunity for women to own and operate their businesses, which has been instrumental in bridging the gender gap. Through direct selling, women have the flexibility to work from home, set their own schedules, and balance their work and family life. By empowering women with economic opportunities, the direct selling industry continues to help promote gender equity and reduce economic imbalance.
To me, IWD represents an opportunity to raise awareness about the ongoing work needed for gender equality, and to be an advocate for the women in the world who continue to face challenges. But it is also a time of celebration. Time to celebrate the incredible achievements we have made in advancing women’s rights. Time to celebrate the progress we have made in creating equity for ourselves. And time to celebrate our resolve to keep pushing on. That’s a lot to celebrate, so at She’s Got Leggz we don’t just celebrate on one day – we celebrate ALL MONTH LONG!!
Winter can be a tough time – the weather is cold, the days are short and dark, and it’s easy to feel down. But don’t worry – there are plenty of things you can do to keep yourself feeling good during the winter months. Let’s explore.
Here at She’s Got Leggz, one thing we know for sure that always helps fight the winter blues is getting dressed in cozy leggings and your favorite sweater or hoodie. Leggings are not only super comfortable, but they come in lots of fun colors and patterns that can help brighten up even the gloomiest winter days. You’ll not only feel great, you’ll look great! Try a pair of our Bright Eyes leggings and a Pink Hoodie – boom – instant happiness!
Another way to stay feeling good is to focus on eating healthy foods. I know, I know – it’s so tempting to reach for unhealthy snacks in the winter, but then after we do we still don’t feel better. Instead, let’s focus on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables to give yourself a boost throughout the season. From our friend Donna Rivard at Wellness by the Water, here is a great article on how to get veggies into your smoothie, sometimes without even noticing them!
And don’t forget about having fun! While it can be hard to motivate yourself in the cold months, it’s important to make time for activities that you enjoy. Whether it’s playing board games with friends, or going on a snowshoe walk in the park, make a point of getting out of the house and doing something fun to help lift your spirits during the winter. We found this fun activity for creating bird feeders for your yard. Get creative building them, then get outdoors for a bit to hang them, and then watch the birds enjoy these feeders as you are snuggled up on the couch, in your leggings of course, with a nice cup of cocoa!
So don’t let winter get you down – focus on taking care of yourself and having a bit of fun to keep you feeling great all season long! And good news – we only have 20 days until Spring!
There’s no denying that leggings are comfortable. They’re easy to move in, they breathe, and they can be dressed up or down. But did you know that leggings can also be powerful? That’s right – leggings are the not-so-secret style weapon of some of the most powerful women in the world.
Leggings send a message of confidence and strength. They show that you’re comfortable in your own skin and that you’re not afraid to flaunt your body. And while they may be casual, they can also be stylish and chic. Just take a look at any red carpet event – you’re bound to see at least a few women sporting leggings.
But it’s not just celebrities and the wealthy who can rock leggings. They’re also a great choice for busy moms, working women, and students! Leggings are versatile and easy to wear, which makes them a perfect choice for any woman on the go.
What’s more, leggings are also body-positive. They look great on all shapes and sizes, and they send the message that every body is beautiful. And Being Your Own Kind of Beautiful is what She’s Got Leggz is all about. It’s such an important message for women of all ages, but it’s especially powerful for young girls who are still developing their sense of self-worth.
So next time you reach for your jeans or skirts, think twice and consider reaching for a pair of leggings instead. You’ll be surprised at just how powerful they make you feel!

My mother has knitted and crocheted for as long as I can remember. While travelling in the car, while waiting for appointments, while watching tv. It was always something I could never grasp. I think I just never had the patience to sit and concentrate long enough.
I remember years ago she used to have a weekly group of ladies over and she taught them how to knit and crochet various projects. Some were great at it, some were like me and needed a LOT of help. Some of them, having worked on the same project for multiple years, were really only there for some social interaction. She used to call their group her bunch of Knit-Wits!
When our Granny Panty leggings arrived I thought it sure would be fun to start a little club of Knit-Wits. No pressure – just trying something new and a connection point with others. But then I tried to read a pattern. O.M.Goodness! I didn’t know about weight, and gauge, and needle size, and what on earth were all these abbreviations they were using??? So having to rethink my approach I got the best advice I could get – I went to my Mom. And so began my first real attempt at crocheting!
Our Knit-Wit Ribbed Hat pattern is derived from one of Melanie’s hat patterns she makes. Melanie, our Director, Field Operations at She’s Got Leggz, has been making hats for the Legion for years. Hundreds of them! But she doesn’t use a pattern. She too doesn’t understand the secret language of the knitter world.
So with my new found knowledge of crocheting from my Mom, and Melanie’s fine motor skills we came up with our own “recipe” that uses real words for the instructions.
We hope you have fun with our Knit-Wit Kit and that it be a reminder to challenge yourself, to stay connected with friends, and to always remember you are never to old to learn something new! Go be a Knit-Wit!
Here is our Knit-Wit Ribbed Hat pattern and links to some helper video! We can’t wait to see what you create.

Top 5 Summer Drinks
Some refreshing summer drinks to try!
Classic Piña Colada
I don’t think there is a more iconic summer drink than the piña colada. This beverage perfectly combines pineapple, lime, coconut and rum to quench your thirst and delight your taste buds. Bonus? It’s super easy to make – all you need is a few ingredients and a blender!
This one is kid-friendly and definitely a family favourite! Anytime a hot day rolls around, I make a pitcher of strawberry lemonade for the kids (and myself)!
This beverage can either be freshly made (click here for the recipe) or store-bought. Both taste great, so it’s your choice!
Mint Mojito
Every time I hear the name Mojito, I’m immediately brought back to a beautiful day on the beach in Mexico. This drink is delicious, and I seriously recommend trying it.
Are you a fan of summer vodka cocktails? If so, then you should add Sea Breeze to your must-try list! This light, tangy and refreshing drink combines cranberry and grapefruit for an all-around irresistible taste.
Here’s a sunny spin on the classic Margarita to help brighten your summer day. This recipe only calls for a blender and a small list of ingredients, making it super easy to make. So, if you love refreshing drinks with a sweet, zingy and delectable taste, this drink is perfect for you!
Cornhole is such a classic when it comes to summer games. Whether you’re at the cottage, the park or in your backyard, it’s the perfect game to get the whole family involved.
How to play:
In cornhole, 2-4 players divide themselves into two teams, and each stands by one of the two cornhole boards. Each team gets 4 bean bags, and they then take turns attempting to throw the bean bags into the hole on the board opposite them. Once all the bags have been thrown, points are counted, and the next round begins.
Three points are given when a bag goes through the hole, and one point is given if the bag lands on the boards. The first team to reach 21 points or more wins.
Frisbee is one of those games that you can play no matter how old you get. So, when the wind is right, grab your kids and join them for a game of frisbee out in the yard. You could even let your dog join!
Mini Golf
Mini Golf is such a fun summer activity. You can go to your local mini-golf course with your kids, extended family, or friends to enjoy a day of fun. Just be sure to abide by COVID-19 guidelines.
Bowling
Whether you want to enjoy a round of backyard bowling with your family or go out to your local bowling alley, this is a great summer (and year-round) activity.
Click here for instructions on how to make your own DIY backyard bowling game.
Spikeball
How to play:
In Spikeball, 2 teams of 2 stand around a taut hula hoop-sized Spikeball net. A round starts when a player serves the ball down on the net, causing it to bounce up towards his/her opponents. The other team can then control the ball and bounce it back off the net with three hits or less.
At first glance, this game may seem a bit intimidating. But once you get the hang of it, it’s a great game to play with family or friends.
